TWA Hotel Wins Best Airport Hotel in North America

The TWA Hotel at JFK Airport has been named the Best Airport Hotel in North America by Skytrax, the renowned international air transport rating organization, in its 2024 World Airport Awards.

The accolades were revealed April 17, 2024, at the annual Passenger Terminal Expo, the world’s largest annual airport design and operations exhibition, in Frankfurt, Germany.

At the heart of the hotel, the restored landmark TWA Flight Center — designed by late architect Eero Saarinen and first opened in 1962 — offers guests restaurants and bars, as well as experiential exhibits, from a 1962 living room to a life-size Twister game.

Guests can watch planes — but won't hear them — from 512 ultra-quiet guestrooms with views of runways and the historic TWA terminal. Overnight stays and Daytripper℠ stays, from four to 14 hours, are available.

A fully restored 1958 Lockheed Constellation “Connie” airplane turned cocktail lounge is parked on the tarmac. And activations, like a winter curling rink and a summer Camp TWA sports and games experience, are offered seasonally.

On the rooftop, an infinity pool inspired by the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, France, overlooks JFK Airport’s busiest runway, 4 Left/22 Right. In the summer, the water’s cool and refreshing; come winter, it’s heated to 95 degrees — and guests are invited to warm up in a ski chalet-themed hideaway. Guests can plane-spot year-round from the observation deck.

At the Paris Café by Jean-Georges, guests can feast on the celebrated chef’s specialties, from crispy salmon sushi to black truffle pizza. The Sunken Lounge makes a mean martini!

Enjoy cocktails in The Sunken Lounge while a custom split-flap Solari board displays messages.

The hotel also has a 10,000-square-foot fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment and a Peloton Room.

In the Event Center, boardrooms, skyboxes and a midcentury-modern ballroom can accommodate up to 1,600 people for weddings, trade shows and conferences.

“Skytrax is the arbiter of quality in the travel world, and we are honored to be named Best Airport Hotel in North America for bringing a first-class experience to thousands of travelers every day,” says Tyler Morse, Chairman and CEO of MCR, the owner-operator of the TWA Hotel.

"Bravo to the TWA Hotel! For both locals and visitors, the TWA Hotel is a critically acclaimed passenger favorite at JFK Airport,” says Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “This Skytrax recognition as the best airport hotel in North America is well deserved.”

“The TWA Hotel represents both a tangible connection to JFK’s storied past and an integral part of the airport’s world-class future,” says Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “The hotel’s distinctive food and drink offerings, remarkable runway views and iconic architecture all add up to an unforgettable stay just steps from our airport terminals. We’re gratified to see Skytrax recognize it for the extraordinary place that it is.”

“We congratulate TWA Hotel for their fabulous success in winning this important guest satisfaction award for 2024,” says Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax. “The airport hotel market has become increasingly competitive in recent years, and for TWA Hotel to achieve this top honour is a fabulous acknowledgement of the high standards they provide to their guests.”

The World Travel Awards celebrate the best of the tourism industry, from hotels to airlines to tour operators. Airport customers of 100 nationalities voted for this year’s airport hotel winners, assessing service, ease of access from the airport, cleanliness, quality of sleep, fitness facilities, food and beverage offerings and value across 550 airports. The seven-month survey took place from August 2023 to March 2024.

Before winning Best Airport Hotel in North America, the TWA Hotel was named the United States’ Leading Airport Hotel and New York’s Leading Airport Hotel by Skytrax for four years straight.

JFK International Airport — which served 62.5 million passengers in 2023 — is undergoing a $19 billion transformation into a world-class global gateway that will include two new terminals, two expanded and modernized terminals and an entirely new, efficient roadway network when complete.

The TWA Hotel is physically connected to JetBlue Terminal 5 and accessible via the AirTrain from all other JFK terminals.
