Unwind and Indulge in Maui at Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Following new entry requirements into Hawaii for domestic travelers, which allows guests to bypass quarantine protocols for those fully vaccinated, after a long time inside, travelers are proving they are ready for a much-needed vacation.

Notable for magnificent sunrises and breathtaking sunsets, Maui offers beautiful beaches for travelers in need of some oceanside relaxation and exhilarating outdoor activities for those seeking a thrill. From delicious Hawaiian cuisine to ongoing sustainability initiatives, we’ve rounded up five reasons why travelers looking for an island escape should head to Maui’s iconic beachside resort, Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort:

Sustainable Practices…

Now more than ever, travelers are looking for ways to experience the beautiful state of Hawaii in a more meaningful way. Grand Wailea offers guests an island getaway they can enjoy responsibly through the hotel’s many ongoing sustainability initiatives. Over the past two years, the resort has been replacing plastic water bottles with recycled aluminum bottles, and as of this year, single-use plastic water bottles have been eliminated entirely. Grand Wailea is also committed to reducing food waste, having partnered with Maui nonprofit Feed My Sheep to supply food to the homeless, and donates leftover food waste to local Puna Farms for animal feed.

Relax and Recharge…

Grand Wailea has introduced a new spa concept called Mōhalu by Spa Grande, open to guests and visitors for appointments. Inspired by the 12th day in the Hawaiian Moon calendar, known to be an ideal time to plant flowers as it was believed the flowers would be perfectly round like the moon on this night, Mōhalu means to relax, or slowly unfold – just as the flowers do as they begin to open. This new, intimate spa experience and personal escape, inspired by the same Spa Grande heritage and traditions, launched as a direct result of guest demand for a full range of treatments in a more private individualized setting. This new chapter for Grand Wailea's Spa Grande story will feature 19 private treatment suites with partial garden or ocean views, and will offer a range of packages and services, including its signature Ho’omalie treatment, while Spa Grande prepares to undergo a future beautification.

Curated Cocktails…

Following the success of the recent collaboration between Grand Wailea and renowned cocktail bar Employees Only, the Botero Lounge is now serving a new cocktail specially curated by Employees Only’s expert mixologists. The cocktail is called ONO LOA and features a delightful blend of tequila, mezcal, lime juice, pineapple, hellfire bitters and simple syrup – perfect to sip on while admiring one of Hawaii’s largest collections of art.

Island Eats…

Summer brings the reopening of Humuhumunukunukuapua’a, Grand Wailea’s award-winning, on-site restaurant – open to guests and members onlyNamed after Hawaii’s official state fish, the restaurant offers exceptional Hawaiian seasonal cuisine prepared using fresh, local ingredients. Resort guests can enjoy signature dishes such as the Mac Nut Crusted Mahi or the Humuhumu Surf and Turf, a prime beef filet and lobster tail served with a red wine sauce. Humuhumunukunukuapua’a floats above an oceanfront lagoon, providing guests with stunning views from any seat in the restaurant.

Morning Festivities…

Due to the overwhelming success of the resort’s weekly luaus, Grand Wailea is now hosting Honua’ula Mornings. Every Monday and Thursday from 9:00am to 12:00pm, guests can immerse themselves in Hawaiian culture by attending a complimentary “mini-luau” in the resort’s lobby. Hula performers and musicians provide entertainment from the Botero Lounge’s stunning overwater stage, while cultural vendors and local artisans line the lobby edges for guests’ perusal. Those who’d like to join in the fun can participate in break-out hula or ukulele lessons.
