Viceroy Riviera Maya Partners with Mezcal Distillery for Cinco de Mayo

Viceroy Riviera Maya has announced its partnership with mezcal brand, Pozo Hondo. The news comes ahead of the resort’s Cinco de Mayo celebrations, which include a ‘Tacos & Mezcal Tasting’ hosted by Pozo Hondo Owner, Alberto Alvelais.

Pozo Hondo is family-owned and today continues to use the same methods and recipe as when it was founded in 1840. Its award-winning mezcal has a distinct and unique flavor, thanks to their fermentation processes, use of the Salmiana Crissispina plant and extreme attention to its growing conditions. Pozo Hondo is creating a school to educate people about Mezcal and its deep Mexican traditions, where students can become a Master Mezcalier.

As part of the partnership, the five-star resort will begin offering private Mezcal tours to guests, who can experience the Mezcal making process firsthand and learn about the traditions behind the beverage at the Pozo Hondo hacienda. The brand’s products will also be served in the resort’s bars and restaurants – including highly acclaimed restaurant, La Marea – and for guests to purchase, allowing them to take a little piece of Mexico home with them.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Viceroy Riviera Maya

Cinco de Mayo has evolved as an opportunity to celebrate Mexico’s rich cultural traditions and colorful national heritage, commemorating all aspects of its identity. In celebration, Viceroy Riviera Maya is announcing its new Cinco de Mayo Package, a special 3-day fiesta starting on Thursday, May 5th, 2022.

As well as mezcal tasting with Pozo Hondo Owner, Alberto Alvelais, Viceroy Riviera Maya’s Cinco de Mayo celebrations feature guest chef, Thalia Barrios García. Named one of the best new chefs in Mexico by Food & Wine in 2021, chef Thalia comes from a long line of cooks and will bring the flavors of true Oaxacan cuisine to the resort.

Highlights of the Cinco de Mayo package include:

  • Tacos and Mezcal tasting hosted by Alberto Alvelais, Owner of Pozo Hondo Mezcal
  • Six-course meal and optional wine pairing from resident Chef Julio and guest Chef Thalia
  • Live music from both a Mariachi and a Norteña band
