What's New In Santa Fe, New Mexico
June 24, 2017
CULTURAL
New Museum:
Museum of Encaustic Art
Santa Fe’s Railyard District is now home to the country’s first encaustic art museum thanks to the Encaustic Art Institute, which opened the facility in March 2017. The goal of the Museum of Encaustic Art is to grow the largest, most extensive, and best represented encaustic art collection in America. The collection includes encaustic painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and more.
New Programming:
Meow Wolf
Through August 20, visitors to Meow Wolf will be treated to daily performances of “Summer in the Multiverse” – a season-long series where inter-dimensional travelers, musicians, performers, magicians, aerialists, acrobats, lighthouse keepers, belly dancers, fencers and storytellers from across the cosmos have come to vacation. Performances are included with standard admission and will unfold at random throughout the day and throughout the summer.
New Art Tour:
Farm to Canvas
Art enthusiasts and foodies unite courtesy of a brand new tour from local company
Santa Fe Art Tours
. Farm to Canvas is an innovative walking tour that encourages a fresh look at the connection between art and food in Santa Fe’s bustling Railyard District, home to upscale art galleries and the famed Santa Fe Farmers’ Market. Local artist Liz Brindley guides tours through the Railyard and dives deep into art through an ecological lens, as well as looks at paintings and vegetables so that guests can discover the interconnection of the natural and human-made worlds. This exploration of art and food includes two to three gallery visits, a trip to the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market, and a hands-on printmaking workshop for guests to create their own food-inspired artwork. The tour is available on select Saturdays and costs $50 per person plus tax.
New Social Club/Event Venue:
Casa España
Located in what was originally an 18th-century fur trader's home, Casa España provides upscale nightlife in the downtown Santa Fe area with custom entertainment and beverage options in a beautiful, eight- room environment that is furnished in the manner of a private, upscale Santa Fe home with custom artwork and bold colors. Interior designer Adriana Long partnered with legendary art and antiques dealer, Holler & Sanders on the project. Casa España is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. as a nightclub exclusively for guests of the Santa Fe and Taos properties within the Heritage Hotels & Resorts portfolio. Private club memberships are also available, and the facility is available to rent Sunday to Thursdays for corporate and social events, wedding receptions and fundraisers of 50 to 300 guests.
New Concept Store:
The DUKE and I
Former HALSTON Creative Director and Designer Randolph Duke and renowned textile business veteran Irene Salas recently opened this 3,000 square-foot concept store near Santa Fe’s historic Plaza district, where they feature solutions to the growing problem of textile and product waste. World textiles, trims and accessories are available for purchase, as are private consultations.
CULINARY
Expanded Facility:
Santa Fe Spirits
With assistance from a Local Economic Development Act grant from the State of New Mexico and City of Santa Fe, Santa Fe Spirits completed the expansion of its distillery and on-site tasting room. The expansion allows the award-winning distillery to increase production and storage of its top-rated Colkegan Single Malt, as well as host a growing number of visitors for tours and cocktails. Santa Fe Spirits has more than doubled the size of its Distillery Tasting Room, and will be able to offer its space as an event venue for up to 100 people. With the newly-remodeled tasting room, Santa Fe Spirits will also host a variety of educational spirits and cocktails classes through
November
.
New Food Truck:
Trinity Kitchen
Cajun country comes to “The City Different” thanks to Shreveport-native and former sous chef Eliot Chavanne, who teamed up with childhood friend Connor Black to bring Santa Fe yet another delicious addition to the city’s red hot dining scene. Visitors can find Trinity Kitchen parked daily at the wildly-successful Meow Wolf exhibit in Santa Fe’s midtown innovation district, dishing out steaming hot plates of Étouffée, Boudin, beignets and other delectable Louisiana favorites. Trinity Kitchen will also make an appearance at mainstay events this summer, including the
International Folk Art Market
.
New Summer Schedule:
Santa Fe Farmers’ Market
The iconic Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is expanding. Traditionally the Market was open on Saturdays year-round, and on Tuesdays May – November, however beginning with the solstice on June 21, the Market will be open on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. In addition to fresh produce, the Market will host family activities, multiple farm-fresh dinner options, and a diverse array of programming as part of the “Wednesday Eve @ The Railyard” event series.
Expanded Farmers’ Market:
El Mercado Del Sur
The brand-new outpost of the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market will host a grand opening on July 4, full of food and festivities. There will be activities for children including water games and a bounce house, traditional dance performances with Los Niños de Santa Fe and “Hands for Land” art workshops and activities with the Creative Activist Network. The first 100 customers can enjoy free meals compliments of the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market. El Mercado Del Sur is located in Plaza Contenta at 6009 Jaguar Drive.
