Situated along the Mad River, it was built on the site of the famed "Pitcher Inn," originally built in the 1700's. The Pitcher Inn has nine unique double-occupancy rooms and two two bedroom suites.
Each room was designed and decorated to be distinctly different. The Pitcher Inn has many of the amenities that are found in a first-class hotel. A locker room with ski and hiking storage is provided for all guests. The locker room is also equipped with a ski boot and glove warmer. Spa treatments are available at the Inn, but arrangements must be made in advance. In addition, arrangements for outdoor activities, such as hikes, golf packages and ski packages can be made at the Inn. The Pitcher Inn is home to one of Vermont's finest wine cellars which holds 6500 bottles. There is also a private dining table in the wine cellar for an intimate dinner. The gift shop offers a tasteful variety of Vermont memorabilia. There is also a game room with an 18th century billiards table and shuffleboard table, a large selection of video for both children & adults and the Robert Frost Library for guests' use.

Suite - There are two suites at The Pitcher Inn, "The Stable" and "The Hayloft." Located in a barn next to the main building, these suites are ideal for the traveling family or couples. The Stable is a two bedroom suite, located on the lower level of the barn. One room has a king size bed, while the other has two twin beds. Each room has a private bathroom. There is a living room with a comfortable seating area and a view of the garden. The Stable is decorated with bridles, saddles, and anything that can be found in a stable. Decorated with antique barn supplies, The Hayloft is located on the second level of the barn and is equipped with two king size beds with a common room separating them. Guest Rooms - Each room was designed and decorated to be distinctly different. Appointed with original art and antiques, the guest rooms provide a comfortable yet luxurious atmosphere. There is one room with two twin beds, seven rooms with king size beds, one room with a king size bed and a pull-out couch for additional guests. All rooms are equipped with a private bath, hidden television and VCR, stereo system, telephone, computer and fax hook-up. Most of the rooms have wood burning fireplaces, Jacuzzis and steam showers.

Mad River Valley offers many different sports and activities during the winter. Visitors can enjoy sleigh rides through open meadows, snowboarding through over 80 miles of groomed and marked trails and ice skating on Winter Park Pond or at the Skatium in Waitsfield, a commununity recreation center open to the public. Spa - The Pitcher Inn and Alta Spa have formed a partnership to further enhance your stay while visiting the Mad River Valley in Vermont. Alta, a full service day spa, is located directly across the street from the Inn. They are an AVEDA concept salon practicing all type of relaxing, preparing, rejuvenating and massage therapies. Golf - Robert Trent Jones, Sr. designed the challenging 18-hole golf course at Sugarbush Resort which Golf Digest called "the essence of a mountain course." This, and several other courses in the area, make the Mad River Valley an ideal place to spend summer and fall weekends.
